An Author's Note

Welcome to my website!

February 6, 2019

Welcome to my new website, and my first blog post! I'm excited to share upcoming events with you, news about projects I'll be working on, and the upcoming release of my new book, coming soon in Spring 2019!

...

My goal as an author is to secure the hope and success of emerging writers, authors, and poets in schools. I believe that there is much talent among our students and youth right here in the Valley, and I love to contribute to writing communities that merit that talent! There has been an exponential growth in the celebration of literature and the arts, and our South Texas culture is unlike any other in the country. Through reading as a skill and writing as a tool, I hope to help youth express who they are without limit or reservation.

Thank you so much for reading, and stay updated for my next post!

Happy Read Across America Week!

February 25, 2019

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Seuss

It's that time of year to celebrate literacy, reading, and one of my favorite authors, Dr. Seuss! Read Across America Week has begun, and it's in full swing at schools and libraries across the world! At Lopez-Riggins Elementary, I was able to visit as The Cat in Hat (I was so excited to dust off my hat and tie) and give a presentation about Read Across America, and how the central message embodies the love and importance of reading. Afterwards, the students and I had fun reading a few books by Dr. Seuss together, including "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish", "Green Eggs and Ham", and of course, "The Cat in the Hat"! It was exciting to see them get into the spirit of the week, with Dr. Seuss shirts, bows, and even Thing One and Thing Two hats they had made in class! It was amazing to see literacy come alive with every colorful bulletin board, student-made crafts, and the guest readers that were invited to the campus. In Los Fresnos CISD, what we do here truly does shape the world.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

The Author Panel Tour,2018 - 2019

March 6, 2019

My goal as an author has always been to be a part of a writing community centered around sharing stories and ideas, and securing the hope and success of emerging writers. To be a part of a writing community of this merit is exactly what The Raving Press has created. The Raving Press is an independent publisher here in the Rio Grande Valley, and its founder, Gabriel Hugo Sanchez, created and has been hosting The Author Panel Tour for Rio Grande Valley authors. A total of 8 RGV authors represent the diverse and dynamic culture that makes the Rio Grande Valley so unique. From children's books, theater dialogues and screenplays, historical recollections, and real life-lessons, to poetry and young adult fiction, authors Patty York Raymond, Stephen Mark Pantoja, Pedro Garcia, Mary Humpal-Bain, Natividad Carillo, Nely Gonzalez, Gabriel H. Sanchez, and myself, Katelynn Rentería, have been along for the amazing journey The Author Panel Tour has taken us on. This promotion of literacy has been an amazing process, and even though we are nearing our last stop, we have created a wave that will only gain momentum. This tour has brought so many experiences over the span of many months, and I am proud to know every member and have sat alongside them at every event. This Saturday, March 9th, will be the last stop of The Author Panel Tour at the Mayor Joe V. Sanchez Public Library of Weslaco, Texas, in the beautiful Eugene A. Braught Memorial Theater. We will continue to share each of our stories, the love of reading, and continue to inspire the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.
